History of Portable Toilets

The origin of these portable toilets is greatly linked to the shipbuilding industry. George Harding, who was an important person on Liberty ships, noticed that a lot of workers’ time was wasted as they had to travel from one place to another far away to use a toilet. So he decided to make temporary toilets on ships. The portable toilets built for the first time were not very impressive and they were made from wood and metal. It was very hard to move them and empty once ashore. Since it was just a beginning so deodorizer wasn’t there at that time, so the smell was a major complaint at that time. By the 1960s, Harding tried his level best to make fiberglass toilets and he succeeded. They were easier to move but they were very fragile. After a few months, the deodorizer was also invented.
